About us
Who We Are
Young Muslims (YM) is a pioneering national youth organization that has been on the youth scene since the early 90’s. We have established a well organized network of local youth groups that we call NeighborNets (which means network of neighbors) across the United States and Canada. Each NeighborNet is a dynamic youth group which attempts to build a solid understanding of the principles of Islam amongst its members by helping them put these principles into practice.
By providing the youth with an Islamic atmosphere where they can form bonds of brotherhood with their peers, they become comfortable with Islam and its teachings. We encourage these youth to take the next step and become the torchbearers of Islamic work in America. We stress the importance of knowing, understanding, and fulfilling our individual and collective obligations as Muslims.

We are actively working on building internal and external resources for our expanding members and paving a road to financial sustainability from the National level to the local NeighborNet level.
Diversity
We are working hard on the grassroots level to foster a diverse environment inclusive of people of all backgrounds, doing outreach in underrepresented communities, and ensuring our branding is one every Muslim youth can be proud to represent.
Tarbiyyah
We are increasing the tarbiyyah of our members through mentorship, spirituality, vision instillment, teaching life skills, and providing a strong knowledge base.
Societal Impact
We are actively working to unite Muslim youth organizations, enhancing community services, addressing relevant Muslim youth issues, and expanding our online presence.
Our History
As Muslim youth groups in the early 90s were popping up across the country in northern New Jersey, New York City, and Chicago, a unifying effort was made in order to establish a national network. Out of these collections of youth groups, Young Muslims was born. Our first charter and national coordinator were established in 1995.
In our twenty years we have grown immensely, expanding to 7 official regions in 5 states. We have established several national efforts and collaborations, producing prolific Islamic workers and bringing thousands closer to Islam. YM continues to challenge itself to grow as an organization, both in numbers and in quality..

Frequently Asked Questions
What is YM?
Young Muslims (YM) is a pioneering national youth organization that has been on the youth scene since the early 90’s. We have established a well organized network of local youth groups that we call NeighborNets (which means the network of neighbors) across the United States.
We stress the importance of knowing, understanding, and fulfilling our individual and collective obligations as Muslims.
The most fundamental aspect of YM is the Neighbornet. This is a weekly gathering of brothers who come together to discuss relevant issues in society, generally, learn about Islam, and just enjoy a Muslim atmosphere. Within each Neighbornet, we have a halaqa led by a YM member about different important topics. This is where YM members get the basic knowledge they need. We try to supplement these halaqas with activities and dinner to promote the safe space and brotherhood atmosphere that today’s youth are desperately seeking.
How old do I have to be to join YM?
Our age range is between 13 to 25 years old.
How do I start a YM Neighbornet?
If you are interested in starting a Neighbornet, please send an email to our expansion team at expansion@ymsite.com. From there, we will connect you with any local leadership that is close by and other resources you may need.
Does a YM Group have to be affiliated with a specific Masjid?
No it is not necessary. There are YM Neighbornets which are the official youth groups of their local masajid but this is not a requirement to join. Meetings do not even have to necessarily take place in a Masjid. Whatever location best suits the growth and development of the Neighbornet should be chosen.
Is YM Co-ed? How can sisters join? What if there are sisters in our existing youth group?
Young Muslims has a securely organized structure. It consists of a Brothers and Sisters wing. Each of these wings functions independently of each other. At the local level, our gatherings are not mixed. Although we do strive to have coordination and cooperation between YM Brothers and YM Sisters at various levels of leadership (National and Sub-Regional). YM Sisters will help those sisters start a YMS Neighbornet. Check out YM Sisters website at http://www.ymsisters.com .
Where is YM?
Currently, we have official Sub-Regions in New Jersey, New York, Dallas, Houston, Florida, and Chicago, but we also have Expansion Units throughout the country and are actively seeking to expand further.
How long does it take to get started?
It does not take long at all. We just ask that the founders of a Neighbornet take the responsibility of maintaining the neighbornet very seriously.
Are there any membership fees?
No.
